Executive Summary

The Mission:

To provide the equestrian community with alternative means through which they may better their recreational experience. Thoroughbred Dreams is dedicated to providing services of such quality that our customers will receive superior value and enjoyment through their dealings with us, as well as sharing in a mutually beneficial relationship with our employees. Our investors will receive a continued superior return on their investment, while contributing to the development of an ethically conscious, socially and economically responsible corporation.

The Background:

Horseback riding is a pastime that can be enjoyed by many people with varying degrees of skill. Horses provide a feeling of relaxation and union with nature, creating a peaceful experience that is a desirable and even necessary antithesis to the “Energizer bunny” society in which we live. The problem facing many members of the equestrian community is that of accessibility. Horseback riding is unlike many other hobbies in that it is not something that the average person can take part in every now and then. It is unlike surfing or skiing or golfing which can be experienced effectively in one’s free time. This pastime offers only one effective means of enjoyment for those who have the monetary means: the actual ownership of the horse(s). This, for most horse lovers, is the ideal situation. However, aside from the financial difficulties presented, there is also the problem of finding enough time to devote to the horses on a continuous basis. This is the situation of which only a select number of affluent equestrians are able to take advantage, a dream that for most others the realities of daily life does not permit.

The variety of other options that are open are, to the experienced equestrian, really not options at all. Establishments that provide the service of rental horses are not places that any self-respecting equestrian would ever utilize, as a result of the terrible quality of the horses they offer. While these businesses might be somewhat useful to the beginning rider, providing services to the amateur adequately summarizes their scope. These horses never experience consistency in their training and handling, and therefore they become effectively ruined as pleasurable animals to ride.

The Service and Edge:

Thoroughbred Dreams is dedicated to addressing this problem in the equestrian community with programs specifically aimed at experienced riders who are unable to possess horses of their own. Through the services offered by the company, horseback riding will become more accessible to a larger sector, and increase awareness of and appreciation for the activity as a whole.

The Team:

The Management team is highly motivated, experienced and well qualified. Thoroughbred Dreams is lead by a dedicated management team of four, who hold 60% of the equity and two board positions. Support is provided by shareholder, Jeff Assael, with 10% equity and one seat on the board. The initial investor will receive two seats on the board, and an independent chairman will be selected.

The Funds:

Thoroughbred Dreams will initially be funded with $250,000 invested by its founders. We are seeking an outside investment of $750,000, with a 25% equity ownership given in return to the investor.

I Ride, Therefore I Am

As far back as I can remember, my best memories growing up have often involved horses. From going to summer riding camp (where the current Target / Home Depot is now located in Newbury Park), to owning my first pony, to waking up 3 hours before I had to be at school so I could go out for a morning ride before feeding the horses and getting ready for class, my childhood revolved around my love for all things equine. Riding was a form of release, an escape, and a bond I shared with my mother. Sadly, once I reached high school, the time and funds to support our horses were in short supply. The point of this seemingly arbitrary information is to explain my need for horses to be a part of my adult life. Though I haven't fine-tuned the details of how or in what capacity this could be realized, I'm currently thinking along the lines of opening a riding academy, or an equine shelter. Nothing conclusive yet... to be continued.
